The FABulous Knights
FabSLAM Team - Idaho
We are a team of six 8th graders competing in the Idaho FabSLAM 3D Design and Fabrication Competition - This is our 6 week story.
The FABulous Knights
We are a team of six 8th graders from Lakeside Jr Sr High School in Plummer, Idaho. We were asked by our Counselor/GEAR UP Coordinator and science teacher to be a part of the FabSLAM competition.
WEEK 1
During our first week we had to decide on a team name and a project to do. We learned about the FabSLAM Competition and what we would be doing for the next 6 weeks.
WEEK 3
WEEK 2
We learned about 3D printing, how a printer works, what can be done with 3D printing in the real world. We also learned how to design something the printer can print.
WEEK 4
We built our skatepark with cardboard manipulatives so we could learn about designing with shapes and could copy these into the computer design program.
We learned how to use Tinkercad, a 3D design software that we used to design our pieces of our skatepark.
WEEK 5
We finished our designs in Tinkercad and learned how to save the files as .stl files that we could open in the printer software to print our pieces.
WEEK 6
We finally got to print all of our pieces, make some modifications, troubleshoot printer problems and design problems and put together our presentation.
